Freedom Isn't Free- The Folds of Honor

Since 2007, The Folds of Honor mission is to “honor the sacrifice of the America’s fallen and disabled service members by providing educational scholarships to their spouses and children.”

The founders, Jimmy and Selena McGuire, believe strongly in the mission of Folds of Honor and supporting our military personnel that make the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and their families. During this year’s event, 250 of people came together and raised $485,000 to support these military families and their future.

To kick off the event over dinner, Major Dan Rooney, founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, shared his story of synchronicity; the moment he knew that starting the Folds of Honor Foundation was his calling. Jennifer, the wife of a solider that is currently battling cancer, shared her story on how the Folds of Honor is currently impacting the lives of her family. As their family is paying medical bills for her husband, the Folds of Honor is taking away the financial stress of school for her kids. His story among others, inspired us and highlighted the need for these families affected by the loss or injury of a loved one that made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Gateway took a unique, yet personal approach on celebrating this event during the golf tournament the next day at the Patriot Golf Club. Divided in to groups of two, each team represented their military branch or a family member’s military branch with proud honor.

Gary P. represented our U.S. Army team serving from 2000-2004 / 2006-2007.

Destin J. represented our U.S. Air Force team serving from 2010-2016.

Bob A. represented our U.S. Marines team, on behalf of his grandfather, father and brother's service.

Chase P. represented our U.S. Navy team, on behalf of his grandfather’s service.

Showing great pride for our country in honor of those who have served, we decorated our golf carts with the American Flag on one side, the military branch served on the other and a banner of American flags around the cart. With our American flag pants and military branch polo’s, Team Gateway won most patriotic team for the second year in a row!

Chase P. (Gateway’s Business Development Team)– “This was an incredible experience! Getting exposed to the Folds of Honor and the life-changing work that they do supporting the families of our fallen soldiers, is something that I won’t forget. Hearing from Maj. Dan Rooney on why he started this foundation and the synchronicity that has played throughout the foundations beginning was special. Then, listening to Jennifer share the impact that the Folds of Honor is currently making for her family was inspiring.  It is awesome getting to work for a company who does so much for different charities. I am very grateful and honored for the opportunity to be a representative of Gateway for the Folds of Honor at this event.

Gateway is proud to be able to support the Folds of Honor Foundation and support our military families. We will never forget those who have made the Ultimate Sacrifice for our country.
